Whimsical Striped Harvest Pumpkin

Materials:

• Worsted weight yarn in orange, cream, and brown
• G/4.0 mm crochet hook
• Stuffing (polyester fiberfill)

Stitches Used:

• Single Crochet (sc)
• Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Instructions:

Base of the Pumpkin:

1. With orange yarn, create a magic ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 2, work 10 sc into the ring. Join with a sl st to the top of the first sc (10 sc).
3. Round 2: Ch 2, *2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around. Join (20 sc).
4. Round 3: Ch 2, *sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around. Join (30 sc).
5. Round 4: Ch 2, *sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around. Join (40 sc).
6. Continue adding rounds of increases until the pumpkin reaches a diameter of approximately 8 inches.

Body of the Pumpkin:

1. Switch to cream yarn.
2. Round 1: Ch 2, work 40 sc around. Join.
3. Repeat 3 more rounds, alternating between orange and cream yarn.

Shaping the Pumpkin:

1. When the body is approximately 5 inches high, stuff the pumpkin lightly, ensuring it's firm but not overly tight.
2. Round 1: Ch 2, *sc in next 3 sc, dec over next 2 sc; repeat from * around. Join (30 sc).
3. Round 2: Ch 2, *sc in next 2 sc, dec over next 2 sc; repeat from * around. Join (20 sc).
4. Round 3: Ch 2, *sc in next sc, dec over next 2 sc; repeat from * around. Join (10 sc).
5. Finish stuffing if necessary, then cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull the yarn through the remaining stitches to close the top.

Adding the Stem:

1. Using brown yarn, create a small stem by chaining 5 and hdc in each chain back to the top.
2. Attach the stem to the top of the pumpkin by sewing it securely with a yarn needle.
