Crochet Elegant Textured Open Cardigan with Pockets Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn (approximately 800-1000 yards)
  • 8mm (L) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Measuring tape
  • Stitch markers

Gauge: 12 double crochets x 8 rows = 4 inches in double crochet.
Size: This pattern is designed for a standard adult size (medium to large) but can easily be adjusted.

Stitches Used:
Chain (ch), Single Crochet (sc), Double Crochet (dc), Half Double Crochet (hdc), Slip Stitch (sl st).

Instructions:

Body of the Cardigan:

  1. Ch 102 (or a multiple of 4 + 2 for sizing). Turn.
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from hook, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch; repeat from * to end. Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), *dc in the ch-1 space, ch 1; repeat from * to end, finish with a dc in the last st. Turn.
  4. Repeat Row 2 until you reach 30 inches or desired length for the back. Do not fasten off.

Front Panels:

  1. From the last row of the back, ch 35 for the first front panel.
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next; repeat from * to end. Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3, *dc in ch-1 space, ch 1; repeat from * to end, finishing with a dc. Turn.
  4. Repeat until it's the same length as the back. Fasten off.
  5. Repeat for the second front panel.

Sleeves:

  1. Ch 60 (or adjust for size). Turn.
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from your hook, *ch 1, skip 1; repeat from * to end. Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in every ch-1 space, finishing with a dc in last st. Turn.
  4. Continue until the sleeve measures 18-20 inches. Fasten off. Make 2 sleeves.

Pockets:

  1. Ch 30 for each pocket. Turn.
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from hook, *ch 1, skip 1; repeat from * to end. Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in every ch-1 space to the end. Turn.
  4. Repeat until pocket measures 6 inches deep. Make 2 pockets.

Assembly:

  1. Attach sleeves to the back, aligning seams, using sl st or sc to sew securely.
  2. Attach front panels to the body and sew along sides, leaving the front open.
  3. Attach pockets to the front panels wherever desired.
  4. Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle.
