Alpine Textured Oversized Cardigan
Materials:
- Yarn: Weight 4 (medium) - approx. 1,200 yards
- Hook: 5.5 mm (I) crochet hook
- Stitch markers
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Buttons: 5 (1 inch diameter)
Gauge:
4 inches = 10 dc stitches
Size:
This pattern is adaptable and can be customized to fit sizes XS to 3X.
Stitches Used:
- Chain (ch)
- Double crochet (dc)
- Slip stitch (sl st)
- Single crochet (sc)
Instructions:
Body:
Notes: This cardigan is worked in one piece from the bottom up. Starting with the Back Panel.
- Ch 78 to start the Back Panel and work in rows.
- Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across. (76 dc)
- Row 2-80: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across. (76 dc)
To shape the armholes:
- Work the next 15 rows, then ask for a size adjustment here; add more rows if needed for larger sizes.
- After the desired length, ch 10 and skip to start the front panels.
Front Panels (make 2):
- Ch 42, repeat the same initial rows as the back until the desired length.
- Finish with a row of weights to create a solid edge. Then bind off.
Sleeves (make 2):
- Ch 45; dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across.
- Continue until it measures 20 inches, then bind off.
Assembly:
- Lay the back panel flat; attach front panels at the shoulder seams using slip stitches.
- Sew sleeves into armholes, adjusting for a loose fit.
- For the border: sc around the entire cardigan.
- Add pockets to the front panels using the same textured stitch.
Finishing:
- Attach buttons evenly along the opening.
- Weave in all ends and block the cardigan to reach your desired shape.
