Textured Colorful Beanie and Squares Pattern
Get ready to knit a cozy beanie that not only keeps you warm but also showcases delightful colors and textures. This pattern is beginner-friendly, and you will also create some charming crochet squares that can be used as coasters or patches.
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in the following colors: navy blue (main color), light pink, mustard yellow, and olive green.
- Size 8 (5 mm) circular knitting needles (16-inch cable)
- Size H (5 mm) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
- Optional: Faux fur pom-pom (for the beanie)
Gauge
4 stitches and 6 rows = 1 inch in stockinette stitch
Abbreviations
- k: knit
- p: purl
- st(s): stitch(es)
- CO: cast on
- BO: bind off
- sc: single crochet
- dc: double crochet
Instructions for Beanie
Beanie Body
- CO 80 sts in navy blue yarn.
- Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
- Work k1, p1 ribbing for 3 rounds.
- Switch to stockinette stitch (knit every round) for 5 rounds.
- Change to light pink yarn and knit 1 round.
- Switch back to navy blue. For the next round, k knit 2, kfb (knit front and back) across the round. This should give you 120 stitches.
- Now, work the following sequence for the next 6 rounds: in (k3, p1) pattern, use light pink for the k stitches, alternating with navy blue for the p stitches.
- Continue alternating with mustard yellow and then olive green in the same pattern until you reach the desired height of the beanie (approximately 9 inches total).
- To finish, knit 2 together across the round until you have 8 sts left. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches.
Pompom (Optional)
- If desired, attach a faux fur pom-pom to the top of your beanie.
Instructions for Crochet Squares
Square Pattern
- Make a magic ring and ch 3 (counts as first dc).
- In the ring, work 2 dc, ch 2, then 3 dc. Pull the magic ring tight to form the center. Slip stitch to join.
- Fasten off and change to olive green yarn.
- For the second round, join olive green in any ch-2 space. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), then work 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same space. Repeat for each corner.
- Finish each square with a slip stitch. Make a total of 3 squares in different color combinations: one with navy blue, light pink, and olive green, another with mustard yellow, navy blue, and light pink, and the last with olive green and navy blue.
Finishing Touches
- Weave in all the ends using the tapestry needle.
