Materials Needed
- Yarn: DK weight in soft green, approximately 300 yards
- Needles: US size 6 (4mm) for ribbing, US size 8 (5mm) for body
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle
- 3 wooden buttons
Gauge
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch using larger needles
Sizes
Pattern includes sizes for newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 2T, and 3T. Directions are given for smallest size, with larger sizes in parentheses.
Instructions
Body
- Using smaller needles, cast on 72 (80, 88, 96, 104, 112) stitches.
- Work in 1x1 ribbing for 1.5 inches.
- Switch to larger needles and knit in garter stitch until piece measures 8 (9, 10, 11, 12, 13) inches from cast on edge.
Sleeves (Make 2)
- Using smaller needles, cast on 28 (30, 32, 34, 36, 38) stitches.
- Work in 1x1 ribbing for 1.5 inches.
- Switch to larger needles and continue in garter stitch, increasing 1 stitch at each end every 6 rows until you have 40 (44, 48, 52, 56, 60) stitches.
- Continue until sleeve measures 7 (8, 9, 10, 11, 12) inches.
Yoke and Assembly
- Join sleeves to body, placing markers at join points, ensuring each sleeve is symmetrically aligned with the body.
- Continue in garter stitch, working raglan decreases as follows: In each decrease row, knit to 2 stitches before marker, k2tog, slip marker, k2tog. Repeat for all marker locations.
- Continue raglan decreases until 32 (36, 40, 44, 48, 52) stitches remain.
- Work 1x1 ribbing for 1.5 inches.
Finish
- Bind off all stitches.
- Sew buttons to the left side of the yoke where indicated, ensuring they align with buttonholes naturally formed by the raglan seams.
- Weave in all ends, block the piece lightly to shape.
