Woodland Critter Hat Free Pattern
This whimsical hat features cute animal-like ears and fun woodland motifs, perfect for little ones who love nature!
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in three colors (main color, accent color, for motifs)
- 4.5mm (G) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Stitch marker
Gauge:
14 stitches and 16 rows = 4 inches in double crochet
Sizes:
0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months
Instructions:
Base Hat
- Chain 4, join to form a ring.
- Round 1: Chain 2 (counts as first dc), 11 dc in ring. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-2. (12 stitches)
- Round 2: Chain 2, 1 dc in the same stitch, 2 dc in each stitch around. Join. (24 stitches)
- Round 3: Chain 2, *1 dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch; repeat from * around. Join. (36 stitches)
- Round 4-9: Chain 2, dc in each stitch around. Join. (36 stitches)
- Round 10: Chain 2, *dc2tog, dc in next 2 stitches; repeat from * around. Join. (27 stitches)
- Round 11: Chain 2, *dc2tog, dc in next stitch; repeat from * around. Join. (18 stitches)
- Round 12: Chain 2, dc in each stitch around. Join.
- Round 13: Chain 2, *dc2tog; repeat from * around. Join. (9 stitches)
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Animal Ears (Make 2)
- Chain 3, join to form a ring.
- Round 1: 6 sc in ring.
- Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12 stitches)
- Round 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (18 stitches)
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff lightly.
Leaves (Optional, Make 3)
- Chain 4, 1 dc in 3rd chain from hook, 1 dc in next chain, chain 2, slip stitch in the same chain.
- Fasten off.
Assembly
- Sew the ears to the top of the hat.
- Attach the leaves around the base of the ears for a whimsical touch.
- Weave in all ends.
