Crochet Elegant Textured Slouchy Hat Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn in beige
  • Crochet hook size H/8 (5 mm)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • fpdc – front post double crochet
  • bpdc – back post double crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • rep – repeat

Notes:

  • The hat is crocheted in rounds from the bottom up.
  • The ribbed pattern is created using fpdc and bpdc stitches.

Instructions:

Ribbed Brim:

  1. Ch 9.
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (8 sc)
  3. Rows 2-50: Ch 1, sc in back loop only in each st across, turn.
  4. Fold the strip in half and sl st the short sides together to form a ring. Turn right side out.

Body of Hat:

  1. Round 1: Ch 1, sc evenly around the edge of the ribbed band, join with sl st to first sc. (Approximately 70 sc)
  2. Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as first dc here and throughout), *fpdc next st, bpdc next st; rep from * around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-2.
  3. Rounds 3-20: Rep Round 2.
  4. Round 21: Ch 2, *dc in next 5 sts, dc2tog; rep from * around, join with sl st. (60 sts)
  5. Round 22: Ch 2, *dc in next 4 sts, dc2tog; rep from * around, join with sl st. (50 sts)
  6. Round 23: Ch 2, *dc in next 3 sts, dc2tog; rep from * around, join with sl st. (40 sts)
  7. Round 24: Ch 2, *dc in next 2 sts, dc2tog; rep from * around, join with sl st. (30 sts)
  8. Round 25: Ch 2, *dc in next st, dc2tog; rep from * around, join with sl st. (20 sts)
  9. Round 26: Ch 2, dc2tog around, join with sl st. (10 sts)
  10. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Use the yarn needle to thread through remaining sts and pull tight to close the top. Secure and weave in ends.

Finishing:

  • Weave in all loose ends with the yarn needle.
