Textured Twisted Twine Scarf with Pocket and Fringe Free Pattern

Materials

  • Super Chunky yarn (#6), approximately 300 yards
  • 12mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge

6 stitches and 8 rows = 4 inches in Twisted Twine Stitch

Size

Finished dimensions: Approximately 7 feet long by 10 inches wide

  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Double crochet (dc)
  • Twisted Twine Stitch (tw)*

Abbreviations

  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • rep = repeat
  • RS = right side
  • WS = wrong side

Instructions

Scarf Body

  1. Ch 30.
  2. Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (29 sc). Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), *dc in next stitch, sc in next stitch; rep from * across, ending with dc in last stitch. Turn.
  4. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first stitch, *tw in next dc, sc in next sc; rep from * across, ending with sc in last stitch. Turn.
  5. Row 4: Ch 2, *dc in next sc, sc in next tw; rep from * across. Turn.
  6. Repeat Rows 3-4 until scarf reaches 7 feet, ending with a Row 4.

Scarf Pocket

  1. Ch 20.
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (19 sc). Turn.
  3. Row 2-8: Repeat Rows 2-3 of the Scarf Body to establish the Twisted Twine Stitch pattern. Finish with a Row 4.
  4. Fold the pocket piece in half and sew the sides together, leaving the top open. Attach to the bottom corner of the scarf.

Fringe

  1. Cut 18-inch lengths of yarn (about 12). Use 3 strands folded in half for each fringe piece.
  2. Attach fringe to both ends of the scarf, spacing evenly.

Finishing

Weave in all ends securely. Block if needed to shape the scarf and pocket.

Notes

Adjust the length of the scarf by adding or removing rows as necessary. For a narrower pocket, decrease the starting chain accordingly.
