Crochet Soft Textured Twisted Beanie Free Pattern

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn (approx. 150 yards)
  • Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors

Gauge:

Gauge is not crucial for this beanie, but aim for approximately 10 stitches = 4 inches in twisted stitch pattern.

Size:

This pattern can be adjusted for various sizes:

  • Baby: 14 inches circumference
  • Child: 18 inches circumference
  • Adult: 22 inches circumference

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Twisted single crochet (twsc) - insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over again and pull through both loops

Instructions:

Ribbing:

  1. Start with a magic ring, chain 1, then make 10 single crochets (sc) into the ring. Pull tight to close (10 sc).
  2. Round 1: Chain 1, make 1 sc in each stitch around (10 sc).
  3. Rounds 2-8: Repeat Round 1 for ribbing (8 rounds).

Main Body:

  1. Round 9: Switch to twisted stitch; *1 twsc in next stitch, 1 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (15 stitches).
  2. Round 10: *1 sc in first stitch, 1 twsc in next stitch; repeat from * around (23 stitches).
  3. Continue alternating between twisted stitch and single crochet until the beanie reaches approximately 9-10 inches in height (about 15 rounds).

Decrease for Top:

  1. Round 1: *1 twsc in next 3 stitches, 1 sc in next; repeat from * around.
  2. Round 2: *1 twsc in next stitch, 1 sc in next 2; repeat from * around.
  3. Round 3: *1 twsc in next stitch, 1 sc in next; repeat from * around.
  4. Round 4: *1 twsc in next 2 stitches; repeat from * around.
  5. Round 5: *1 twsc in next stitch; repeat from * around.

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull to close. Weave in all ends.
