Crochet Enchanting Twisted Bowler Hat
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn (approximately 200 yards)
- Crochet hook (size H/8 - 5.0 mm)
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Stitch marker
- Optional: Embellishments (flowers, ribbons, sequins)
Gauge: 4 inches = 12 stitches in single crochet
Instructions:
Hat Body:
- Start with a magic ring, ch 2 (this counts as your first hdc), work 11 hdc into the ring. Pull the ring tight and join with a slip stitch to the top of the first hdc. (12 hdc)
- Round 2: Ch 2, 1 hdc in the same stitch, 2 hdc in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch. (24 hdc)
- Round 3: Ch 2, *1 hdc in the next stitch, 2 hdc in the next stitch* repeat from * to * around. Join. (36 hdc)
- Round 4: Ch 2, *1 hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch* repeat from * to * around. Join. (48 hdc)
- Continue increasing in this manner until you reach a diameter of approximately 8 inches (about 8-10 rounds depending on your tension).
- Work evenly for about 4 rounds (no increases) to build the height of the hat, then start working in back loops only for the next 2 rounds to create the texture.
- Finish off and weave in all ends.
Twisted Brim:
- Attach yarn to any stitch along the bottom of the hat, ch 1, and sc around the entire bottom edge for 1 round.
- For the twisted effect, fold the brim fabric upwards at the last round and slip stitch along the back side to secure it.
- To add more flair, work a round of reverse sc (crab stitch) to create a finished edge.
Embellishments:
- Feel free to adorn your hat with flowers, ribbons, or other embellishments as desired!
