Elegant Textured Triangular Shawl
Skill Level:
Intermediate
Finished Size:
Approximately 12" (30.5 cm) wide x 72" (183 cm) long after blocking.
Materials:
- Lightweight yarn (you will need approximately 400 yd (366 m) total, in at least two colors)
- US G-6/4 mm crochet hook (or any size needed to obtain desired drape)
- Yarn needle
- Locking stitch markers
- Blocking supplies (pins, blocking mat, and spray bottle)
Gauge:
Gauge is not critical for this project. Use a hook that is larger than recommended to achieve a pleasing drape.
Stitches Used:
- Chain (ch)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Double crochet (dc)
- Half double crochet (hdc)
- Treble crochet (tr)
- Slip stitch (sl st)
- Cluster stitch
Pattern:
1. Foundation Row: Ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, turn. (3 hdc) 2. Row 1: Ch 2, dc in each hdc across, turn. 3. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *ch 2, skip next dc, sc in next dc; repeat from * across, ending with a sc in top of turning ch, turn. 4. Row 3: Ch 3, tr in first sc, *(ch 2, tr in ch-2 space) twice, ch 2, tr in next sc; repeat from * across, ending with a tr in top of turning ch, turn. 5. Repeat Rows 1-3 until shawl reaches desired length, alternating colors every 2 rows. Adjusting pattern every repeat for visual interest (optional). 6. Border: Ch 1, sc in each st around the shawl. Add a *ch 2, skip next st, sc in next st* pattern at intervals for added flair. Repeat until worked around. 7. Finishing: Fasten off, weave in ends, and block to dimensions using blocking supplies.
Notes:
- Feel free to alternate colors as desired, and experiment with different stitch combinations!
- A video tutorial for some stitches may be beneficial if you're still mastering them.
