Intermediate

Finished Size:

Approximately 12" (30.5 cm) wide x 72" (183 cm) long after blocking.

Materials:

  • Lightweight yarn (you will need approximately 400 yd (366 m) total, in at least two colors)
  • US G-6/4 mm crochet hook (or any size needed to obtain desired drape)
  • Yarn needle
  • Locking stitch markers

Gauge:

Gauge is not critical for this project. Use a hook that is larger than recommended to achieve a pleasing drape.

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Double crochet (dc)
  • Half double crochet (hdc)
  • Treble crochet (tr)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Cluster stitch

Pattern:

1. Foundation Row: Ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, turn. (3 hdc)

2. Row 1: Ch 2, dc in each hdc across, turn.

3. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *ch 2, skip next dc, sc in next dc; repeat from * across, ending with a sc in top of turning ch, turn.

4. Row 3: Ch 3, tr in first sc, *(ch 2, tr in ch-2 space) twice, ch 2, tr in next sc; repeat from * across, ending with a tr in top of turning ch, turn.

5. Repeat Rows 1-3 until shawl reaches desired length, alternating colors every 2 rows. Adjusting pattern every repeat for visual interest (optional).

6. Border: Ch 1, sc in each st around the shawl. Add a *ch 2, skip next st, sc in next st* pattern at intervals for added flair. Repeat until worked around.
