Crochet Adorable Strawberry Earflap Hat Free Pattern

Materials Needed

  • Worsted weight yarn in red, green, and white.
  • Crochet hook size H (5.0 mm).
  • Tapestry needle.

Abbreviations

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • inc - increase (2 sc in one stitch)
  • dec - decrease (sc two stitches together)

Hat Base

  1. R1: With red yarn, make a magic ring, 6 sc into ring. Join with sl st. (6 sts)
  2. R2: Ch 1, inc around. Join with sl st. (12 sts)
  3. R3: Ch 1, (sc in next st, inc in next st) around. Join with sl st. (18 sts)
  4. R4: Ch 1, (sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st) around. Join with sl st. (24 sts)
  5. Continue inc in this pattern until you reach the desired circumference for the head size.
  6. R5-12: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st.

Earflaps

  1. R1: Attach red yarn to one side of the hat, ch 1, sc in next 12 sts.
  2. R2: Ch 1, turn, sc across.
  3. Continue in sc for 8 rows, decreasing each row by 2 sts until you have 2 sts remaining. Fasten off.
  4. Repeat on the opposite side for the second earflap.

Edging

Using green yarn, sc around the entire edge of the hat, including earflaps. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Leaves

  1. Make 5: With green yarn, ch 8.
  2. R1: Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc, hdc, dc in next 3 ch, hdc, sc, sl st in last ch. Fasten off.
  3. Attach leaves evenly around the top center of the hat.

Stem

  1. With green yarn, ch 6, join with sl st to form a loop.
  2. Ch 1, sc around. Repeat for 3 more rounds, fasten off, and sew to the top of the hat.

Strawberry Earflap Ends

  1. R1: With red yarn, make a magic ring, 6 sc into ring. Join with sl st. (6 sts)
  2. R2: Ch 1, (sc, inc) around. Join with sl st. (9 sts)
  3. R3: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st.
  4. R4: Ch 1, (sc, dec) around. Join with sl st. (6 sts)
  5. Stuff the strawberry, fasten off, and sew onto the bottom of each braided earflap tie.
  6. With white yarn, sew small seeds randomly on each strawberry.
