Navy Blue Crochet Basket Pattern

In this pattern, you will create a lovely navy blue crochet basket. This project is beginner-friendly and perfect for using up some yarn while adding a decorative piece to your home.

Materials

  • Worsted weight cotton yarn in navy blue (approx. 200 yards)
  • Crochet hook size H/8 (5.0 mm)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Gauge

To ensure your basket turns out the right size, check your gauge. 4 inches = 11 double crochets (dc) and 7 rows in double crochet.

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • rnd = round

Instructions

  1. Start with the base:
    • Ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.
    • R1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 11 dc in ring. Join with sl st to top of starting ch-3. (12 dc)
  2. Increase for the sides:
    • R2: Ch 3, 2 dc in each dc around. Join with sl st. (24 dc)
    • R3: Ch 3, *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around. Join with sl st. (36 dc)
    • R4: Ch 3, *dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around. Join with sl st. (48 dc)
  3. Work the sides:
    • R5-R13: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join with sl st. (48 dc)
    • Repeat this round until you reach approximately 6 inches from the base (total height should be about 6-7 inches).
  4. Creating the handles:
    • R14: Ch 3, dc in next 8 dc, ch 10 for handle, skip 10 dc, dc in remaining 27 dc. Join with sl st.
    • R15: Ch 3, dc in each dc and ch around. Join with sl st.
    • Repeat this for the other handle on the opposite side.
  5. Finish the basket:
    • R16: Ch 1, sc in each dc and ch around. Join with sl st.
    • Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving in. Pull through last loop to secure.
  6. Weaving in Ends:
    • Use the yarn needle to weave in all loose ends securely.

Your navy blue crochet basket is now complete! You can fill it with lemons, use it as a plant holder, or keep it for storage around the house.
