Whimsical Textured Cable Knit Hoodie
Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight yarn (approx. 400 yards)
- Hook: 5.5mm (I-9)
- Stitch markers
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Gauge:
14 stitches x 18 rows = 4 inches in double crochet.
Sizes:
This pattern is designed for toddlers aged 2-4 years. For other sizes, adjust the number of stitches accordingly.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- cable = cable stitch (details below)
- puff = puff stitch (details below)
Cable Stitch:
To create a cable, work 2 dc in the front post of the previous row’s dc, then skip the next 2 dc and work 2 dc in the next front post. Repeat to create a cabling effect.
Puff Stitch:
Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull through (you will have 4 loops on your hook), yarn over again and pull through 2 loops. Repeat twice more in the same stitch, then yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.
Pattern Instructions:
Body:
- Chain 60 (or desired width).
- Row 1: dc in the 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (58 dc)
- Rows 2-10: ch 3, dc in each st across (58 dc).
- Row 11: ch 3, *dc in next 5 sts, cable in next 2 sts; repeat from * across to end. Turn.
- Rows 12-18: ch 3, *dc in next 5 sts, puff in next st; repeat from * across to end. Turn.
- Repeat rows 11-18 until the body reaches desired length (approx. 12-14 inches).
- Fasten off and set aside.
Sleeves (make 2):
- Chain 30 (or desired sleeve width).
- Row 1: dc in the 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn.
- Rows 2-8: ch 3, dc in each st across. Turn.
- Row 9: ch 3, *dc in next 3 sts, cable in next 2 sts; repeat from * across to end.
- Row 10: ch 3, *dc in next 4 sts, puff in next st; repeat from * across to end.
- Repeat rows 9-10 until it reaches desired length for sleeves (approximately 10-12 inches).
Assembly:
- Join the body to the sleeves at the armholes with slip stitches.
- For the hood, attach yarn to the neck edge and work in rows, repeating dc and puff stitches to build the height of the hood (approx. 8-10 inches).
- Finish with a row of sc around the entire body and sleeves for a neat edge.
- Weave in all ends.
