Whimsical Spooky Bat Bookmark Pattern
Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight yarn in black, purple, and white
- 3.5 mm (E) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Polyester stuffing (optional)
Abbreviations:
- ch - chain
- sc - single crochet
- dc - double crochet
- sl st - slip stitch
- inc - increase
- dec - decrease
Body: (Main Section)
- With black yarn, ch 10.
- Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook, sc across (9 sc).
- Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Inc in the first sc, sc across (10 sc).
- Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Inc, sc across (11 sc).
- Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Inc, sc across (12 sc).
- Rows 5-10: Ch 1, turn. Sc across (12 sc each row).
- Row 11: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc across (11 sc).
- Row 12: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc across (10 sc).
- Row 13: Ch 1, turn. Dec, sc across (9 sc). Fasten off.
Wings (Make 2):
- With black yarn, ch 12.
- Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook, sc across (11 sc).
- Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Inc in first sc, sc across (12 sc).
- Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Inc in first sc, sc across (13 sc).
- Row 4: Ch 1, turn. Inc in first sc, sc across (14 sc).
- Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Sc in all (14 sc) but dec in the last stitch. (13 sc).
- Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
Assembly:
- Sew wings to the upper corners of the body.
- Using white yarn, embroider two eyes and a small mouth on the body.
- If desired, stuff the body slightly for dimension.
- To create the bookmark, cut a length of yarn about 12 inches long and attach it to the top of the bat's head to use as a tassel.
