Whimsical Frosty Penguin Amigurumi Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn: White, Black, Orange, and Blue
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Safety eyes (8 mm)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • dec - decrease
  • inc - increase
  • sl st - slip stitch

Penguin Body:

  1. With White yarn, magic ring: 6 sc in ring (6)
  2. Round 2: Inc in each st (12)
  3. Round 3: (sc in next st, inc) x 6 (18)
  4. Round 4: (sc in next 2 sts, inc) x 6 (24)
  5. Rounds 5-10: sc in each st (24)
  6. Round 11: (sc in next 2 sts, dec) x 6 (18)
  7. Round 12: (sc in next st, dec) x 6 (12)
  8. Stuff the body with fiberfill.
  9. Round 13: Dec 6 times (6)
  10. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Penguin Head:

  1. With Black yarn, magic ring: 6 sc in ring (6)
  2. Round 2: Inc in each st (12)
  3. Round 3: (sc in next st, inc) x 6 (18)
  4. Rounds 4-7: sc in each st (18)
  5. Round 8: (sc in next st, dec) x 6 (12)
  6. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Penguin Wings (make 2):

  1. With Black yarn, ch 4.
  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 2 ch (3)
  3. Row 2: ch 1, turn, dec (2)
  4. Row 3: ch 1, turn, dec (1)
  5. Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Beak:

  1. With Orange yarn, ch 3.
  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and next ch (2)
  3. Row 2: ch 1, turn, dec (1)
  4. Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Scarf:

  1. With Blue yarn, ch 30.
  2. Row 1: sc in each ch (29)
  3. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Assembly:

  1. Sew the head to the body.
  2. Attach the safety eyes and sew on the beak just below the eyes.
  3. Attach wings to either side of the body.
  4. Wrap the scarf around the penguin’s neck.

Hat:

  1. With Blue yarn, ch 4, join to form a ring.
  2. Round 1: 10 sc in ring (10)
  3. Round 2: (sc in next st, inc) x 5 (15)
  4. Rounds 3-5: sc in each st (15)
  5. Round 6: (sc in next 5 sts, dec) x 3 (12)
  6. Round 7: (sc in next 4 sts, dec) x 3 (9)
  7. Round 8: (sc in next 3 sts, dec) x 3 (6)
  8. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Finishing Touches:

For a cute pom-pom, use leftover Blue yarn to make a small pom-pom and sew it to the top of the hat. Let your whimsical penguin greet your guests with joy!
