Whimsical Frosty Friends Stackable Snowflake Coasters
This fun and beginner-friendly crochet pattern will help you create vibrant and cheerful snowflake coasters that stack together to form a cute snowman family! These coasters can also double as delightful decorations during the winter season. Let’s get started!
Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight yarn in white, light blue, and black
- H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Polyester fiberfill (optional, for stuffing the snowman head)
- Embroidery thread for facial features
Stitches Used:
- Chain (ch)
- Slip Stitch (sl st)
- Single Crochet (sc)
- Double Crochet (dc)
- Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Gauge:
While gauge is not critical for this project, each coaster should be approximately 4 inches in diameter.
Instructions:
Snowflake Coaster Base:
- With white yarn, make a magic ring.
- Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 11 dc into the ring. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch-3. (12 dc)
- Round 2: Ch 3, dc in the same stitch, *2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * around. Join with a sl st. (24 dc)
- Round 3: Ch 1, *sc in next stitch, hdc in next, dc in next, ch 2, dc in next, hdc in next, sc in next. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st.
- Round 4: Ch 1, *sc in each stitch around. Repeat from * for 2 additional rounds. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Snowman Head and Facial Features:
- With white yarn, create a magic ring.
- Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), 5 hdc into the ring. Join with a sl st. (6 hdc)
- Round 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st. (12 hdc)
- Round 3: Ch 2, *hdc, 2 hdc in next stitch. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st. (18 hdc)
- Round 4: Ch 1, *sc, hdc, dc, ch 2, dc, hdc, sc. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st.
- Stuff lightly with polyester fiberfill, if desired. Fasten off.
- Add facial features using embroidery thread: stitch a small carrot nose, and use a French knot for eyes.
Assembling the Coasters:
- Stack 3-4 snowflake coasters to create the body of the snowman.
- Attach the snowman head on top with a few stitches to secure.
- You may add a yarn hat or scarf using the remaining yarn in contrasting colors.
Care Instructions:
Hand wash gently and lay flat to dry.
Now you have adorable stackable snowflake coasters to enjoy during the winter season or to gift to loved ones!
