Instructions:
Starting the Mosaic Squares
1. Make the first square: Using color A, chain 20.
2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th chain from the hook, dc in each chain across. (18 dc)
3. Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), turn. Dc in next dc, *change color to B, dc in same stitch, return to A, dc in next two dc, repeat from * across. (18 sts)
4. Repeat Row 2, changing colors every two rows until you have a total of 5 rows per square.
5. Fasten off and repeat to create 12 squares using different color combinations.
Assembling the Poncho
1. Arrange squares in a pattern you like, 3 squares across and 4 squares down.
2. Using a whip stitch or slip stitch, sew the squares together (face sides together) in rows.
Creating the Neck Opening
1. Once the squares are joined, find the center of the top row to create the neck opening.
2. Leave 2 squares open on each outer edge (for armholes), and join the squares in the middle 6 squares with a sc. This should create a V-neck opening.
Finishing Touches
1. Add a border: Attach color A at the bottom left corner of the poncho, sc around the entire poncho edge, placing 3 sc in each corner.
2. Finish off and weave in all ends with a tapestry needle.
