Crochet Textured Placemats
This pattern is for creating stylish crochet placemats that are perfect for your kitchen or dining room. Made with durable yarn, the placemats feature a textured stitch and are designed to be both practical and eye-catching. They can also be personalized with different colors to match your decor.
Materials:
- Worsted weight cotton yarn in the following colors: Light Grey (2 skeins), Off White (1 skein).
- Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook.
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends.
- Scissors.
Gauge:
12 stitches and 13 rows in half double crochet = 4 inches.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- hdc = half double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- repm = repeat
Instructions:
- Foundation Row: Start by making a slip knot with the Light Grey yarn. Chain 52. (You can adjust this number depending on your desired width.)
- Row 1: Starting in the 3rd chain from the hook, work 1 hdc in each chain across. Turn. (50 hdc)
- Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in the same st. *Hdc in next st, hdc in the next st, then in the next st, work 2 hdc.* Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. Turn.
- Row 3: Ch 2, hdc in the same st. Work in the same pattern: hdc in first two sts, then 2 hdc in the next st. Repeat until the end of the row. Turn.
- Row 4: Change to Off White yarn. Ch 2, hdc in the same st. Work in the same stitch pattern across. Turn.
- Row 5: Change back to Light Grey. Ch 2, hdc in the same st. Continue the textured pattern. Turn.
- Repeat Rows 2-5 until your placemat reaches about 18 inches in length or your desired size.
- Finishing Row: Once your desired length is achieved, work 1 row of slip stitches across to finish off the edge. This will give it a nice clean finish.
- Border (optional): For a more finished look, you can create a border by slipping stitch around the entire placemat using the Light Grey yarn.
- Fasten off and weave in any loose ends with the yarn needle.
Care Instructions:
Hand wash and lay flat to dry. Avoid using a washing machine to preserve the texture and shape of your placemat.
