Crochet Ocean-Themed Textured Basket Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

• Worsted weight yarn in cream, various shades of blue, green, and tan
• Crochet hook size H (5.0 mm)
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Abbreviations:

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• hdc = half double crochet
• dc = double crochet
• ss = slip stitch
• st(s) = stitch(es)

Base:

1. Using cream yarn, make a magic ring.
2. Rnd 1: ch 1, 8 sc into the ring. Join with ss to the first sc. (8 sts)
3. Rnd 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around. Join. (16 sts)
4. Continue increasing each round by 8 sts until the base measures approximately 12 inches in diameter.

Basket Body:

1. Using cream yarn, work in sc in each st around without increasing until the basket is 10 inches tall.
2. Create a handle: ch 12 and skip 12 sts, then sc around. On the next round, sc across ch. Repeat on opposite side of the basket.

Wave Pattern:

1. With light blue yarn, attach at the bottom of basket body.
2. Work in a wave pattern: alternate hdc and dc stitches across for texture, varying each round to create wave effect. Change shades of blue to mimic ocean waves.

Sea Motifs:

Starfish: Using tan yarn, ch 6 and form into a ring. Rnd 1: 15 sc into ring. Rnd 2: *ch 6, work hdc, dc, hdc back down the chain, ss into next 3 sc* repeat 5 times to create points.

Shells and Flowers: Use a similar method of ch and variations of sc, hdc, and dc to create differing textures and shapes. Attach randomly around wave section.

Assembly:

Sew the sea motifs onto the basket using the tapestry needle, arranging them artistically around the wave area.
