Crochet Heart Appliqué Pattern

Elevate your crochet projects with this charming heart appliqué. Perfect for beginners, this pattern guides you through creating a lovely pink heart that you can embellish as desired.

Materials Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn in pink (about 50g)
  • Crochet hook size 4.0 mm (G/6)
  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • Various embellishments (such as beads, buttons, and charms)
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:

Gauge is not crucial for this project, but aiming for 4 inches (10 cm) square with single crochet should yield a similar size.

Abbreviations:

  • ch - chain
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • sc - single crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • st - stitch

Instructions:

  1. Start with the Foundation:
    Make a magic ring or ch 4 and join with a sl st to form a ring.
  2. Round 1:
    Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch). In the ring, make 10 sc. Pull the magic ring tight or join your ch 4 to form a circle. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (10 sc)
  3. Round 2:
    Ch 1. In the same stitch, make 2 sc. Then, in each stitch around, make 2 sc in each stitch. Join with a sl st. (20 sc)
  4. Round 3:
    Ch 1. Sc in the same stitch. *Sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next stitch (increase)*, repeat from * around. Join with a sl st. (30 sc)
  5. Round 4:
    Ch 1. Sc in the same stitch. *Sc in the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch (increase)*, repeat from * around. Join with a sl st. (40 sc)
  6. Create the Heart Shape:
    To form the heart, we will add sc in the following pattern:
    • Turn your work and ch 1;
    • Sc in the next 10 stitches for one side of the heart;
    • Skip the next 10 stitches, ch 1, turn your work.
  7. Finishing the Heart:
    Create an identical side by repeating the previous steps. Now sew both sides together starting from the bottom, sealing the heart completely!
  8. Adding Embellishments:
    Use your yarn needle to sew on beads, buttons, or charms as desired. You can attach them in the middle of the heart or around the edges for extra flair!
  9. Weaving in Ends:
    Use a yarn needle to weave in any loose ends from your yarn.

Congratulations! You've made a lovely crochet heart appliqué. Use it to embellish hats, bags, or as a charming gift for someone special. Enjoy your crocheting!
