Crochet Festive Whimsical Starburst Popper
Materials Needed:
- 2 skeins of cotton yarn in various colors
- Crochet hook (size G or H, depending on your tension)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Stuffing (optional for a plushie version)
Stitches Used:
- Chain (ch)
- Slip stitch (sl st)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Double crochet (dc)
Instructions:
- Start the Body:
Make a magic ring. Inside the ring, work 6 sc (6). Pull the ring tight. - Round 1: Increase in each sc around (12).
- Round 2: *1 sc, 1 increase* repeating around (18).
- Round 3: *2 sc, 1 increase* repeating around (24).
- Rounds 4-6: Work 1 sc in each stitch around (24).
- Round 7: *2 sc, 1 decrease* repeating around (18).
- Round 8: *1 sc, 1 decrease* repeating around (12). If you are stuffing the popper, now is the time to add a small amount of stuffing.
- Round 9: Decrease around until closed (6).
- Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Adding the Starburst Design:
- Choose a new color and attach it at the top of the popper.
- Work 3 dc into the same stitch, then skip 1 stitch and sl st into the next stitch. Repeat this around until you've made the starburst patterns evenly spaced. Cut and fasten off this yarn.
Finishing Touches:
- For the tassels, cut strands of yarn about 6 inches long and tie them together with another strand to hold them in place.
- Attach tassels to the base of the popper using the yarn needle.
- You can also embellish further with beads or small decorations if desired.
