Gauge:

12 stitches and 14 rows = 4 inches in the layered leaf pattern.

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • fpdc = front post double crochet
  • bpdc = back post double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch

Instructions:

  1. Chain 36 to start (or any multiple of 8 + 4 for your desired width).
  2. Row 1: dc in the 4th chain from the hook, dc in each chain across. (34 dc)
    Turn.
  3. Row 2: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 5 stitches, *fpdc around the next 2 stitches, bpdc around the next 2 stitches; repeat from * across until the last 6 stitches, then dc in the last 6 stitches.

    Turn.
  5. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the dishcloth measures approximately 10 inches in height or your desired size.
  6. Last row: dc in each stitch across.
    Turn.
  7. Edging: Ch 1, sc evenly around the entire dishcloth, placing 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st to the first sc.

Finishing:

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving in. Weave in all ends and trim excess yarn.
