Cozy Textured Openwork Cardigan

Materials

  • DK Weight Yarn (approx. 800-1200 yards, depending on size)
  • 3.5mm (E) crochet hook
  • Stitch markers
  • 3-5 buttons (optional)
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Stitch Glossary

  • Chain (ch)
  • Single Crochet (sc)
  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Diamond Stitch Pattern: (1dc, ch1, 1dc) in the same stitch

Gauge

14 stitches x 10 rows = 4 inches in Diamond Stitch Pattern

Sizes

This pattern is customizable. Common sizes (S, M, L, XL) can be made by adjusting the number of stitches.

Instructions

Back Panel

  1. Make a foundation chain of 70 (80, 90, 100) stitches.
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook, *ch1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch; repeat from * across. (End with dc in the last ch.)
  3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn, *dc in ch1 space, ch1; repeat from * across.
  4. Repeat Row 2 until the piece measures 22 inches from the start.

Front Panels (make 2)

  1. Make a foundation chain of 35 (40, 45, 50) stitches.
  2. Row 1: As Back Panel.
  3. Repeat Row 2 as in Back Panel until piece measures 22 inches.

Sleeves (make 2)

  1. Foundation chain of 40 (45, 50) stitches.
  2. Row 1: As Back Panel.
  3. Continue until the sleeve measures 18 inches, then decrease by 1 stitch on each side for 2 rows.

Assembly

1. Align the back panel with the front panels and join at the shoulders using a slip stitch.

2. Attach sleeves to the armholes using slip stitches.

3. Sew or crochet the sides together, leaving a gap for the armholes.

Finishing

  1. Optionally, add buttons to the front for closure.
  2. Weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle.
  3. Block the cardigan to enhance the stitch definition.
