Materials

4 inches x 4 inches = 18 stitches and 10 rows in single crochet

Foundation Chain: Ch 60. This will serve as the base of your shawl. Adjust the number of chains for a larger or smaller shawl, but make sure to keep it an even number.
Row 1: In the second chain from the hook, sc. Continue to sc across the chain. You should have 59 stitches. Turn your work.
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as dc). In the first stitch, dc. In the next stitch, skip 1 st and in the following stitch, place 2 dc. Repeat this pattern (skip 1, 2 dc) across the row. You will end with 1 dc in the last stitch. Turn your work.
Row 3: Ch 1 (does not count as sc). Sc in the first stitch. In the next space (the space between the 2 dc from the previous row), sc. Repeat this across the row. Turn your work.
Row 4: Ch 2 (counts as dc) and dc in the same stitch. In the next space where you have 1 sc, place 2 dc. Repeat this across the row. You will end with 1 dc in the last stitch. Turn your work.
Rows 5 - 10: Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until the shawl reaches your desired length (approximately 60 inches). Remember to keep a consistent count of your stitches.
Final Row: Once you have reached the desired length, ch 1 (does not count as sc). Sc across the entire row to finish the end of the shawl and provide a clean edge.
Finishing: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving in. Use a tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends on the inside of the shawl. This will keep your work neat and tidy.
