  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • st(s) - stitch(es)

Shawl Instructions

  1. Foundation Chain: Ch 60. This will serve as the base of your shawl. Adjust the number of chains for a larger or smaller shawl, but make sure to keep it an even number.
  2. Row 1: In the second chain from the hook, sc. Continue to sc across the chain. You should have 59 stitches. Turn your work.
  3. Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as dc). In the first stitch, dc. In the next stitch, skip 1 st and in the following stitch, place 2 dc. Repeat this pattern (skip 1, 2 dc) across the row. You will end with 1 dc in the last stitch. Turn your work.
  4. Row 3: Ch 1 (does not count as sc). Sc in the first stitch. In the next space (the space between the 2 dc from the previous row), sc. Repeat this across the row. Turn your work.
  5. Row 4: Ch 2 (counts as dc) and dc in the same stitch. In the next space where you have 1 sc, place 2 dc. Repeat this across the row. You will end with 1 dc in the last stitch. Turn your work.
  6. Rows 5 - 10: Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until the shawl reaches your desired length (approximately 60 inches). Remember to keep a consistent count of your stitches.
  7. Final Row: Once you have reached the desired length, ch 1 (does not count as sc). Sc across the entire row to finish the end of the shawl and provide a clean edge.
  8. Finishing: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving in. Use a tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends on the inside of the shawl. This will keep your work neat and tidy.

Blocking (Optional)

To enhance the layout of the shawl, you can block it by laying it flat on a clean surface and pinning the edges to help it keep its shape.
