Cozy Checkered Throw Blanket Pattern
This cozy throw blanket features a lovely checkered pattern in pink and white. The texture is soft and inviting, making it perfect for snuggling under on cold nights. The blanket is finished with fringes on the edges, adding a decorative touch.
Materials
- Medium weight yarn (approximately 1200 yards): 600 yards pink, 600 yards white
- Size 8 (5 mm) knitting needles
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
Gauge
16 stitches and 22 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations
- CO = Cast On
- ST = Stitch
- K = Knit
- P = Purl
- RS = Right Side
- WS = Wrong Side
- BO = Bind Off
- Yarn Over (yo) = Create a new stitch by wrapping yarn over the needle
Instructions
- Cast On: 150 stitches using the pink yarn.
- Row 1 (RS): K across the row.
- Row 2 (WS): P across the row.
- Row 3: K 2, *yo, K 2, repeat from * to end of the row.
- Row 4: P across, making sure to purl into the yarn overs (this will create holes for the checkered effect).
- Row 5: K 2, *yo, K 2, repeat from * to end of row (this will start the pattern repeat).
- Row 6: P across, purling into yarn overs as before.
- Repeat Rows 1-6 until the blanket measures approximately 60 inches in length, or until desired length.
- Change to white yarn: For the last 6 rows, repeat the same pattern with white yarn to create a contrasting border.
- Bind Off: Use a stretchy bind-off method to ensure the edge is flexible. Cut the yarn, leaving a long end for weaving in.
Fringe
- Cut 12-inch lengths of the white yarn (approximately 40 pieces).
- Fold each length in half and use a crochet hook to pull it through the edge stitches of the blanket.
- Pull the ends through the loop created to form a knot.
- Evenly space the fringes along the edges of the blanket.
Finishing Touches
Weave in all ends using a yarn needle. Block the blanket lightly to ensure it lays flat. Enjoy your new cozy checkered throw blanket!
