Colorful Knitted Stripes
In this project, you will create a beautifully striped knitted piece using three colors: soft grey, vibrant green, and bright orange. This simple pattern will help you practice your knitting skills while producing a stylish accessory to wear or gift.
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in the following colors: 1 skein each of soft grey, vibrant green, and bright orange.
- Knitting needles, size 8 (5 mm).
- Scissors.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge:
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations:
- CO: Cast On
- k: Knit
- p: Purl
- st: Stitch
- BO: Bind Off
Instructions:
- Cast On: CO 30 stitches using the soft grey yarn.
- Row 1: *k1, p1* across to end of row (this creates a ribbed edge).
- Row 2: Repeat Row 1.
- Change Color: After completing 2 rows of ribbing, switch to the vibrant green yarn.
- Rows 3-10: Knit every row (this is known as stockinette stitch), until you have 8 rows of green.
- Change Color: Switch to the bright orange yarn.
- Rows 11-18: Again, knit every row, creating 8 rows of orange.
- Change Color: Return to soft grey yarn for the next segment.
- Rows 19-22: Knit each row, completing 4 rows of grey to finish off the pattern.
- Bind Off: BO all stitches loosely to prevent the edge from puckering.
- Finishing: Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 6 inches. Use the tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends securely.
Your colorful knitted striped piece is now complete! This pattern can be adjusted in size by casting on more or fewer stitches, and you can play with colors to personalize your project even further.
