Crochet Warm Faux Fur Earflap Hat with Pom Poms Free Pattern

Stay cozy with this charming earflap hat featuring luxurious faux fur detailing. Perfect for adding a playful touch to your winter wardrobe!

Materials Needed:

  • Size H, 5.00 mm crochet hook
  • Medium weight (size 4) yarn in beige
  • Faux fur yarn in brown
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Double crochet (dc)

Pattern Instructions:

Hat Body:

  1. Start with a magic circle using beige yarn. Work 10 dc into the circle. Join with a sl st to the first dc. (10 dc)
  2. Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2 dc in each st around, join with sl st. (20 dc)
  3. Round 3: Ch 2, *1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st*; repeat from * to * around, join with sl st. (30 dc)
  4. Round 4: Ch 2, *1 dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next st*; repeat from * to * around, join with sl st. (40 dc)
  5. Round 5: Ch 2, *1 dc in next 3 st, 2 dc in next st*; repeat from * to * around, join with sl st. (50 dc)
  6. Continue increasing in this manner until you reach desired width for head circumference, usually up to 60 dc for an adult size.
  7. Work rounds of dc without increasing until the desired height is reached.

Earflaps (Make 2):

  1. With beige yarn, ch 12.
  2. Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (10 dc)
  3. Row 2: Ch 2, dc across. Turn. (Repeat this row for 3 more rows.)
  4. Row 5: Ch 2, dc2tog, dc to last 2 sts, dc2tog. Turn. (8 dc)
  5. Continue decreasing in this manner until 2 dc remain. Fasten off.
  6. Sew earflaps to bottom sides of the hat.

Faux Fur Trim:

  1. Attach faux fur yarn to the edges of the hat and earflaps.
  2. Single crochet around the hat and earflaps to add the fur trim.
  3. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Pom Poms:

  1. Using faux fur yarn, create two pom poms around 3 inches in diameter.
  2. Attach one pom pom to the top of the hat, and the others to the ends of braided ties.

Ties:

  1. Cut 3 strands of yarn about 24 inches long.
  2. Braid the strands together, knotting at each end.
  3. Attach ties securely to the tips of the earflaps.
