Crochet Snug Multicolor Earflap Baby Hat with Pom Pom Free Pattern

Materials Needed

• Super bulky yarn in blue, cream, and taupe
• Crochet hook size L/8.0 mm
• Pom pom maker
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Gauge

2 stitches x 2 rows = 1 inch in double crochet (dc)

Instructions

Hat Body

1. With blue yarn, create a magic ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 2 (does not count as dc), 10 dc into ring. Join with sl st to first dc. (10 sts)
3. Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around. Join. (20 sts)
4. Round 3: Ch 2, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st* around. Join. (30 sts)
5. Round 4: Ch 2, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st* around. Join. (40 sts)
6. Round 5: Ch 2, dc in each st around. Join. (40 sts)
7. Change to cream yarn. Rounds 6-8: Ch 2, dc in each st around. Join. (40 sts)
8. Change to taupe yarn. Rounds 9-10: Ch 2, dc in each st around. Join. (40 sts)
9. Change to blue yarn. Rounds 11-12: Ch 2, dc in each st around. Join. (40 sts)

Earflaps

1. Find the middle of a round and attach blue yarn to start first earflap.
2. Earflap Row 1: Ch 2, dc in next 8 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
3. Rows 2-5: Ch 2, dc2tog at the beginning and end of each row. Turn. (decreases by 1 each row)
4. Finish off and weave in ends. Repeat on the opposite side for the second earflap.

Edging

1. With cream yarn, join at any point on the hat, sc around entire base of the hat and earflaps, join with sl st. Fasten off.

Braided Ties

1. Cut 6 strands of cream, taupe, and blue yarn about 24 inches long each.
2. Fold in half and draw through the end of the earflap to create a loop, then pull the ends through the loop.
3. Braid securely and tie off at the end. Trim to desired length. Repeat for the other earflap.

Pom Pom

1. Using all three colors, create a pom pom with the pom pom maker according to package instructions.
2. Sew securely to the top center of the hat.

Finishing

• Weave in all yarn ends securely with tapestry needle.
• Block gently if needed to shape.
