Materials Needed
- Bulky weight yarn in assorted colors (approximately 2000 yards total)
- Crochet hook size L (8.0 mm)
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Finished Size
Approximately 45 inches wide x 53 inches tall (not including border).
Abbreviations Used
- ch: chain
- dc: double crochet
- sc: single crochet
- fpdc: front post double crochet
- puff: puff stitch (yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop) repeat 3 times, yarn over, pull through all loops on hook
Instructions
Foundation Row
- With Color A, ch 150 loosely.
- Row 1: sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (149 sc)
Create Stripes with Texture
- Row 2: Change to Color B, ch 1, sc in first sc, *puff in next st, sc in next st; repeat from * across, turn.
- Row 3: Repeat Row 1, turn.
- Row 4: Repeat Row 2, change to Color C at end of row.
- Row 5-8: Repeat Rows 3 and 4, changing colors every two rows. Suggested color pattern: A, B, C, D, E, F.
Continue Pattern
Repeat rows 2-8 until desired length is achieved, ending on a Row 3.
Border
- Round 1: With Color A, sc evenly around entire blanket, placing 3 sc in each corner. Join with a sl st to first sc.
- Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as dc), *fpdc around next st, dc in next st; repeat from * around, join with sl st.
- Round 3: Change to Color B, ch 1, sc in each st around, placing 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st.
- Rounds 4-5: Repeat Round 2 with alternating colors A and B.
Finishing
Finish with a row of puff stitches for the outer edge. Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle.
