Crochet Breezy Openwork V-Neck Summer Top

Sizes: Small (Medium, Large)
Yarn: Light weight cotton yarn, approximately 600 (700, 800) yards
Hook: 4.5 mm (US 7)
Gauge: 20 stitches x 10 rows = 4" in openwork pattern

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Single Crochet (sc)
  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Shell Stitch (5 dc in one stitch)
  • Slip Stitch (sl st)

Pattern Instructions:

Body: (Make 2)

Back Panel:
  1. Ch 86 (100, 114) to begin.
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across (85, 99, 113 sc).
  3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), *skip 2 sc, shell in next sc; repeat from * to last 3 sc, skip 2 sc, dc in last sc.
  4. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *ch 2, skip the shell, sc in next dc; repeat from * across to last dc, sc in top of ch-3.
  5. Repeat Rows 2-3 until the piece measures 20 (22, 24) inches from the starting chain.
  6. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for seaming.
Front Panel:
  1. Repeat the Back Panel instructions but stop when the piece measures 16 (18, 20) inches from the starting chain.
  2. To create the V-neck, ch 20, sc into next ch and join back into the top of the first row of the opening.
  3. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for seaming.

Assembly:

  1. Align the Back and Front panels, with right sides facing each other.
  2. Using the long tail, sew the shoulder seams together, leaving enough space for the arms at both sides.
  3. Seam the sides, leaving a 10-inch opening for the armholes.
  4. Using a slip stitch, crochet around the neckline and armholes to finish.

Finishing:

Weave in all ends and block the top to achieve desired shape. Customize with fringe or lace edging for a playful touch!
