Chunky Knit Blanket Pattern
This chunky knit blanket is not only easy to make but also adds warmth and style to any living space. The thick yarn creates a beautiful texture that is perfect for beginners. Follow these detailed instructions to create your very own!
Materials
- Chunky Bulky Yarn (recommended: 8-10 skeins, depending on the desired size)
- Size 15 (10 mm) knitting needles
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
Gauge
Gauge is not critical for this project, but for reference, 4 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations
- k: knit
- p: purl
- st(s): stitch(es)
- BO: bind off
Instructions
- Cast On: Start by casting on 30 stitches (or more depending on the width you want). Use the long tail method for a neat edge.
- Row 1: *Knit 1, Purl 1* across the row. This creates a lovely ribbed texture.
- Repeat this until the end of the row.
- Row 2: Repeat Row 1 to create more texture.
- Continue Knitting: Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the blanket reaches your desired length (approximately 60 inches is a good size for a throw blanket).
- Binding Off: Once you've reached the desired length, it’s time to bind off. Knit the first two stitches, then pass the first stitch over the second stitch and off the needle. Continue this until you have one stitch left on your needle. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 6 inches, pull it through the last stitch to secure.
- Finishing: Using a tapestry needle, weave in any loose ends. You can trim excess yarn for a tidy finish.
Optional Step:
Add a fringe to the ends of the blanket for extra flair! Cut yarn pieces about 12 inches long, and tie them in increments along the edges.
Care:
Hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry to ensure this blanket stays looking cozy and new!
